Premium RPE Pond Liner, Built for Real-World Ponds
Everything Ponds Premium liners are built for long-term water containment, combining high UV and puncture resistance with trusted North American manufacturing. They are safe for fish, plants, hydroponics, and drinking water applications (NSF-61 certified).
Quick fit rule: choose based on foldability vs puncture strength for your pond shape and install conditions.
Choose Your Liner (UV / Tough / Extreme)
- Premium UV (30 mil) — best all-around for most ponds; most bendable/easiest to fold around shelves and corners.
- Premium Tough (36 mil) — higher puncture resistance for covered installs; slightly stiffer than UV.
- Premium Extreme (40 mil) — strongest, double-reinforced option for harsh installs; stiffest, best when durability matters more than foldability.
Install note: For Premium UV, install the shiny/laminated side up toward the sun. For Premium Tough and Premium Extreme, there is no difference between sides.

Exposed means liner is left exposed to direct sunlight/UV with no cover. Covered means liner is covered by water, soil, rock, or other cover material. Premium Tough is rated for shorter warranty in exposed conditions and longer warranty when covered.
*** Puncture resistance measured via ASTM D4833 test.
Why Installers Choose Premium
- Fish, plant, drinking-water, and organic-farming safe (NSF-61).
- High UV resistance for long service life.
- North American made with tighter quality control.
- Custom single-piece options reduce on-site seaming for large builds.
- Default roll width: liner is initially manufactured in 12' wide rolls. We seam multiple strips together to create the desired size, and off-the-roll discounts are available when any liner is ordered in a 12' width.
Can be used in conjunction with our Pond Liner Underlay if installing over abrasive surfaces like concrete, small gravel, or rougher surfaces. Please note that large or sharp rocks should still be removed or covered before installing underlay. Order a sample of this liner here.
Why We Call It Premium
All three of our premium RPE liner options are manufactured in North America using high-grade materials and strict quality control. Many liners on the market today are imported from countries like India and China. Although these materials are cheaper, we find their quality doesn’t match that of North American-made products.
These liners are NSF-61 rated, meaning they’re suitable for fish, plant, and drinking-water applications where clean, non-leaching containment matters.
Best Uses
Suitable for ponds, water features, lakes, streams, dams, golf course water hazards, irrigation ponds, aquaponics, hydroponics, cisterns, and other water containment projects.
Premium RPE Liner Vs Traditional EPDM Rubber Liner
| Premium Liners (UV / Tough / Extreme) | EPDM Rubber |
|---|---|
| ✓ High Puncture Rating (180 lb / 210 lb / 347 lb) | ✕ Much Lower Puncture: 28 lb |
| ✓ 1/3 the weight of EPDM for easier handling | ✕ Heavier material |
| ✓ Custom sized Liners to the nearest foot, up to 60,000 sqft | ✕ 5' increments. On-Site seaming required for large liners |
| ✓ UV/Extreme: 20-year when exposed to sun uncovered | ✕ Requires covering from UV |
| ✓ NSF-61 Rating (fish/plant/drinking-water safe) | ✕ Fish & Plant Safe but No NSF-61 Rating |
| ✓ Often no underlay needed | ✕ Underlayment is required |
| ✕ Flexibility tradeoff: stronger but less flexible | ✓ Naturally flexible for complex folds |
| ✕ Heat gun may be required for custom details | ✓ DIY seaming with primer and tape |
Covering the Pond Liner
After laying down the liner and conforming it to the bottom of the pond, it is a good idea to cover the liner to give the pond a natural look and to protect it from long-term UV exposure. For a pond with vertical walls, we will often stack rocks to create an underwater rock wall around the edge. The top of the wall can extend slightly above the water level, providing a nice rim around the pond. For larger ponds or lakes with a sloping bottom toward the deepest area in the middle, we usually place a strip of geotextile fabric around the entire perimeter of the pond. The fabric provides grip and protection when laying down a fill layer next. The fill material can be anything, such as sand, clean gravel, or nice rocks. The main idea is to add some fill to hide the liner and give the pond a more natural appearance. If the pond's slope is steeper than 6 to 1, the geotextile is essential for keeping the fill material from sliding down the slippery liner.
There are various ways to detail the edges of a large pond. Scroll down to see a few ideas that we commonly use.
Packaging & Installation
Premium RPE liners are initially manufactured in long rolls that are 12 feet wide. To create a specific liner size, we heat-weld two or more liner strips together, producing high-quality heat-welded seams in the liner. These heat-welded seams are guaranteed not to leak and carry our full warranty, like the rest of the liner. Liners weighing less than 145 lb are packaged into a box and shipped via UPS Ground, which takes between 2 and 6 business days depending on your location in the USA. Anything larger is shipped on a pallet via freight truck.
The liner comes packaged in a roll. The first step in installation is to place the liner in one corner of the pond so that you can unroll it in the long direction of the pond. For example, for a 60' x 30' pond, the long direction will be the 60' edge. After unrolling, the liner is accordion-stacked, which means you can grab the top edge of the liner and pull it across the width of the pond. For every 12 feet of liner, it helps to have one person helping to pull. So, for a 48-foot-long liner, you would want to have at least 4 or 5 people to help pull the liner across the width. If you are dealing with a very large, heavy liner, such as one over 150 feet, you may want to unroll the liner down the middle of the pond instead of along the edge. This way, you have less material to pull across the width since you would only have to pull the liner across half the width at a time. We have installed liners up to 250' x 250' using this method.
Once the liner is loosely laid over the pond excavation, you can begin smoothing the liner down to get it lying as flat as possible. This may involve folding and pleating the liner here and there. Try to leave at least 2 feet around the entire edge so that you can anchor the liner down by either digging an anchor trench or covering it with fill, as shown in the pictures above.

D.Lippert, Ontario, quietnature.ca, RPE Pond Liner, 30mil Laminated
"The liner holds up well to the moose traffic. It's a great place for birds and other wildlife to get water during the summer. It's amazing what a person can build with a shovel and some plumbing and a good pump (and lots of rocks!)."
- Lyle.G, Idaho, RPE 24
“The 30mil liner RPE went very well.
- J. Dabbert, California, RPE 30
"The project went great. The liner was good to work with: light and easy to bend around the shelves” -
- E.Norris, Nova Scotia, RPE 24

“My project was simple. I needed a dry riverbed in my backyard. It holds water when we have a good rain (New Mexico ? lol ). I can recycle it with a small pump to water plants and shrubs or put the pump in and looks like a running steam.”
- N.Kelly, Idaho, RPE 30mil Laminated
- O.Riddle, Ohio, RPE 30
“It took a little finagling but the liner material was pliable enough to fold into those sharp corners with much extra bulk.
