The Savio Springflo filter media is our favorite filter media to use with any brand of biological filter.  Springflo is very high performing when it comes to biological filtration due to the patented ribbon shape, which helps encourage better adhesion and proliferation of the bacteria  Each roll contains 180 square feet of surface area for beneficial bacteria to colonize. The surface of the ribbon is also embossed with millions of dimples to further promote healthy bacterial growth. 

Savio Springflo is also very resistant to clogging and prevents channeling and compaction in both waterfall up-flow filters and horizontal pressurized filters.  This media is also very durable and easy to clean in a way that doesn't overly disrupt bacterial growth - simply shake the filter and drain.  This is one of the features we really like.  Some other filter media requires more rigorous cleaning to remove clogs, which only hurts the biological performance.  As for life span, this media should last between 3 to 5 years of regular use.
