Helix Moving Bed Waterfall Filter
This revolutionary biological filter is easy to use and incredibly effective! If you have a number of fish, or a swimming pond, this is a maintenance free way to ensure clean, healthy water when paired with mechanical filtration!
This no-maintenance biological filter is ideal for swimming ponds with underwater suction grids, wetland filters, or planted bog areas.
This dedicated biological filter must be paired with a mechnical filter (for debris collection) such as a Helix Pond Skimmer and/or underwatersuction grid.
Benefits
- Maintenance free for life! (if placed after mechanical filtration)
- Excellent water clarity as a result of reduced nitrates through biological filtration
- More fish without more maintenance - Treats up to 1lb of fish food per day
- Less time cleaning and more time enjoying due to increased dissolved oxygen levels (if used with diffuser)
- Comes with floating filter media, no need to purchase seperately!
- Makes building a waterfall easier with built in spillway

Helix Moving Bed Waterfall Filter vs the Helix Mechanical Reactor
The Moving Bed Waterfall Filter is a stand alone, zero maintenance filter that offers superior biological filtration. The Helix Mechanical Reactor offers both mechnical and biological filtration, which means the filter traps debris (refered to as mechanical filtration) which has to be backflushed periodically. All ponds require both biological filtration and mechnical filtration in order to have a healthy ecosystem.
Use the Helix Moving Bed Waterfall Filter as a zero maintenance option when paired with an underwater suction grid, wetland filter, or some other type of mechanical filtration.
Use the Helix Mechanical Reactor when both mechanical and biological filtration are needed in one unit, regular maintenance is required.
How do I disguise the unit?
Use our Rock Lid Small or Rock Lid Large to easily hide your Helix Moving Bed Waterfall Filter. You could also cover the unit with real rocks since the unit is virtually maintenance free you do not need to access it regularily. You could also hide the filter under a viewing platform or bridge.
Floating Media
It takes roughly two weeks for the floating media to absorb enough moisture to stay submerged. You can combat this problem by screwing the bucket lid to the inside of the radial diffuser to prevent the floating media from falling out during the first two weeks.
Flow Rate
The desginated flow rate ensures that the filter media tumbles well. If you increase the flow rate the biological filtration process will not be as effective.
