Maintenance
The Helix Filters have been designed from the ground up for easier cleaning. The upper section of the filter contains the biological filter media which does not need to be cleaned. The lower section of the filter body offers mechanical filtration which needs to be backwashed regularly to remove solids. To clean the filter connect a shop vac (set to blow) or a blower to the standpipe then follow the step by step instructions provided with the filter.
Filter Media
The upper section of the Helix Bio Mechanical Reactor houses the exceptional Helix Floating Bio Media that comes with the purchase of the unit.
The lower section of the filter is where the mechanical filtration occurs. This section needs to be filled with lava rock that can be sourced locally. Lava rock not included. Use 1" - 1.5" rock.
Soak included filter media overnight in a tub of water. This allows for easier installation as it prevents the media from bubbling out into the pond on initial set up.
